first_imgNew Sunderland manager Simon Grayson has got a great opportunity and can get the faltering club going in the right direction, says his agent Jamie Moralee. The relegated Black Cats announced the appointment of the former Preston boss on Thursday after takeover talks were halted by owner Ellis Short.Grayson, who has also managed the likes of Leeds United and Huddersfield Town, arrives at the Stadium of Light with plenty of work to do but Moralee believes he has shown his capabilities before.“He’s got a great opportunity at Sunderland,” he said on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.“I think we all know that the club has had some recent issues and you have just got to go to the training ground, and the main stadium, and you see the magnitude of the football club is just geared up for the Premier League.“Simon is one that has gone into football clubs, whether it be Leeds, Huddersfield or Preston, they all seem to be, now, moving in the right direction again.“I think that he can really get Sunderland going again and he’s a real good appointment.”Sunderland have been faltering for a number of years and their seemingly inevitable relegation from the Premier League was finally confirmed last season under the stewardship of David Moyes. On Grayson’s immediate to-do list is to assemble a capable squad of players but Moralee insists he is ready for the challenge ahead.“When he took Leeds they were just out of receivership – going through similar problems with Ken Bates – and then the same at Preston,” he added.“I think that the mentality issue is obviously key but they were players that have all walked out the door so they are not there anymore.“I think he’s got about six or seven players at the moment that he’s got to work with so I think the players that he’s going to bring in will be Simon Grayson players.“They will be coming in with new ideas, new challenges, and coming in ready to hit the ground running.“Literally he’s going to be assembling a brand new squad, over the last eight months, that he believes, by game one, will be his team and ready to show the fans what they can do – which is hard work and 100 per cent, something that is a given when you play under Simon Grayson.”last_img read more
