7 Arrested for ‘Stealing’ 4,417 ‘Not-for-Sale’ Textbooks

first_imgAuthorities of the Liberia National Police (LNP) have arrested seven persons in connection with stealing over 229 cartons of textbooks and other items from the Ministry of Education (MOE) warehouse on 3rd Street in Sinkor, outside Monrovia. The cartons reportedly contained over 4,417 textbooks the ministry printed to be distributed among students across the country “free-of-charge,” police said. A police statement issued yesterday said the suspects (all males) diverted the books while transporting them from the ministry’s main offices to its warehouse in Paynesville, outside Monrovia.According to the police, the suspects also stole 66 Liberian flags and two cases containing book bags. The suspects are identified as Alexander Brown, who is an MOE contractor; Nelson Browne, an MOE employee; and Collins Toe, an officer of JAS Security Guard Service which is assigned to the MOE.Other suspects are George Tomah, Aaron Sumo, Stephen Cooper, and Isaac Botany.“The men were arrested following a complaint Deputy Education Minister Aagon F. Tingba filed to the police,” an LNP statement said.
