Footage from the scene showed the officers wearing harnesses and using ladders to scale the statue’s baseFootage from helicopters showed her sitting at the base of the statue, occasionally lying on her stomach and kicking her feet up behind her, ABC station WABC-TV reports.Okoumou was seen holding a t-shirt displaying the words “Rise and Resist” and “Trump Care Makes Us Sick.”She wasn’t the only protester arrested at the Statue of Liberty on Wednesday. Earlier that afternoon, seven people were apprehended for holding a banner that read “ABOLISH ICE” off the base below the statue, which is technically called Fort Hood.Rise and Resist is the name of a protest group that arranged the banner display earlier Wednesday, and they tweeted that the climber “has no connection to our #abolishice action earlier today.”“Rise and Resist planned a banner drop today at the Statue of Liberty. This action did not include the climber on the statue. Our action was completed earlier. There are concerns over how Solskjaer would squeeze Pogba and Fernandes into the same midfield three and the Norwegian views Ramsey as a more adaptable player to work with. Of course, a hefty sum of money would still need to be involved for any potential deal to get over the line. LA Clippers’ DeAndre Jordan rebounded from off games

Posted on by

first_imgGuard J.J. Redick echoed that sentiment during a post-game interview.“DJ was great tonight,” said Redick, whose team finished 1-4 on their road trip and took on the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday night at Staples Center. “More than whatever stats he put up, his energy was fantastic. That was big for us. I think he, more than anyone, kept us in the game.”Jordan also stepped out on the perimeter several times to guard Warriors guard Steph Curry. And did well.“I liked it,” Rivers said. “Curry got some garbage baskets at the end of the game. But overall I didn’t mind at all how we played him.”Rivers mentioned Jordan again prior to tip-off Thursday. DeAndre Jordan of the Clippers was coming off two subpar rebounding games when he took the floor at Golden State on Wednesday to take on the defending-champion Warriors.Jordan had just seven rebounds in Saturday’s loss at Memphis and only nine in Sunday’s defeat at New Orleans. Considering he averages 14.0 per game, that was noteworthy. But he was absolutely ferocious against Golden State, coming through with 20 rebounds to go along with 19 points, two blocks and three assists in the Clippers’ 114-98 loss. Were it not for Jordan, the Clippers likely would not have been as close as seven points in the fourth quarter.Afterward, coach Doc Rivers said Jordan was the “most dominant player on the floor, overall.” “His miles-per-hour last night was off the charts,” he said. Klay Thompson on sweepThe Golden State Warriors won all four games against the Clippers this season, six consecutive dating to this past season. After his Warriors defeated the Clippers 114-98 on Wednesday at Golden State, guard Klay Thompson spoke in complimentary tones about how difficult that was to accomplish.“It’s tough to sweep the same team four times, especially against one of the better teams in the league, so we’re proud of it,” he said. “It’s a team we’ll face down the line, so it’s always great to sweep a team; it’s not easy.”There is a strong chance the Clippers and Warriors will meet in the second round of the playoffs. Although Wednesday’s game was a 16-point margin, the other three games this season were much closer as the Warriors won by four (112-108), seven (124-117) and three (115-112) points.Clippers injured forward Blake Griffin played in the first two games, but not the last two. This and thatThe Clippers entered Thursday’s game with a record of 43-27, 26-14 without Griffin, who has not played since Christmas because of injuries. But they were just 3-7 over the past 10 games. … J.J. Redick was shooting 48 percent from 3-point range. The highest percentage from deep in franchise history belongs to Eric Piatkowski, who shot 46.6 percent in 2001-02. … Up next for the Clippers is Denver on Easter Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Then it’s the Boston Celtics on Monday night.center_img Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Errorlast_img read more

NFL star Marshall returns to Pittsburgh for one-day camp

first_imgWELCOME—Brandon Marshall talks to campers before they start drills at the Brandon Marshall Youth Football Camp. (Courier Photos/William McBride) The importance of determination and giving back to the community are just a few of the skills National Football League player Brandon Marshall taught at his self-titled free Youth Football Camp, June 2, at the Pittsburgh Barack Obama Academy field.Marshall, a wide receiver for the Chicago Bears, partnered with the Pittsburgh Public Schools and other areas, and together they hosted more than 400 boys and girls ages 7-14 at the one-day camp. “It was great. This was more hands on, he ran every drill with the kids and makes it more of a life camp,” said Jason Bell, Pittsburgh director of the Brandon Marshall Camp and former Pittsburgh Public Schools coach. Bell said he has seen a lot of camps, but was very impressed with this one. “He gave a testimony of how he got into the NFL and that it’s important to give back to the community,” he said.Bell also said Marshall stressed the importance of developing life skills, no matter what profession one chooses.Although Marshall got his start in Pittsburgh on Larimer Avenue as a part of the Kingsley Knights midget football league, he later moved to Florida where he attended Lake Howell High School, in which he lettered in basketball and track, and the University of Central Florida.Marshall and his organization were contacted numerous times, but failed to respond by the deadline of this publication.Bell said the camp was important because Marshall reiterated what parents have been trying to teach their children.“When you have a role model like that supporting what the parents are saying, it holds more value,” he said.last_img read more
