The JCândido Building is situated at Zamenhoff Street, a peaceful street and predominant residential in the capital of south of Brazil. The project began to show up in 2015, 20 months before to be absolutely given to the residents.Save this picture!© Rodolpho ReisThe program was created from the front land limitations. A really small dimension, of just 13,5 meters, considering that the idea was a construction with retreat sideways. That would allow openings all over the lateral façade, impacting considerably the cross-ventilations and natural light gains in the units. The type plan is composed of two units and a vertical circulation between them. Also, on the last floor, there are two duplex with penthouse, which complete the proposed program of 10 units. A front garden, with no grid protection, is kind of a gift to the city. By the way, as soon as you get in front of the building or walking on the street, you run into a graphite art which was developed by Paxart. On the ground floor, there is the main entrance and some parking lots at the back of the ground, and a parking underground enough space providing greater comfort.Save this picture!© Rodolpho ReisThe common areas are an important transition zone from the urban chaos to our sweet home. To respect and prize these places, we decided to create a sensorial identity treatment present on the façade, all common areas, garage and at the apartments access circulation as well. So, the intimate energy and cosiness arise from natural materiality, warm colors and artistic intervention. Creating this energy, the intention is make the residents feel at home as soon they get in the garage, not only inside the apartment. The proximity of the apartaments next to the street offer a sense of secure and an enjoyable ambience for who walk on this street.Save this picture!© Rodolpho ReisA flexible apartment layout for was the solution for the diversity of residents. That allowed to decide how many bedrooms they would like, from one to three. On the back façade, next to the bedroom there is a balcony to get a better solar incidence on the east side. Also, the same balcony on the frontal façade makes the connection with the living room and outside area. In the afternoon, the high incidence is protected by a sliding panel’s as brise soleil. Looking for an identity with the Jerivá preserved in the frontal garden, was establish that this brise system should be a natural color like jeriva’s elements. In addition, to the daily handling and maintenance future we decided on aluminum with electrostatic painting woody pattern, which will ensure the aesthetic of the façade for many centuries. Actually, an easy maintenance was the main point talking about the materials definition.Save this picture!Plan Type 4Save this picture!Plan Type 7Greater durability, impacts resistance and storms guided us to choose to use in the common area polished granite, porcelain tile and glass mosaic and on the façade perforated plate, ceramic pellets and aluminum.Save this picture!© Rodolpho ReisProject gallerySee allShow lessXanc i Meli Restaurant / AMOOSelected ProjectsIsraeli Pavilion at the 2018 Venice Biennale to Explore the Idea of “Status Quo” Wit…Architecture NewsProject locationAddress:Rua Zamenhoff, 116 – São João, Porto Alegre – RS, 90550-090, BrazilLocation to be used only as a reference. Bank margins have fallen to 3.02 percent as of the first quarter of 2015, the lowest average since 1984, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation said.”While many banks have already laid out and executed cost-cutting initiatives, Fitch anticipates further efforts to reduce operating costs and improve operating leverage,” the report stated. “These decisions come at time when many banks have been significantly investing in operational infrastructure to bolster regulatory compliance as well as technology in order to defend against ongoing cyber security threats but also to improve customer experience. When the Fed decides to make a move on rates, Fitch believes there are variables that may affect earnings and capital positions for banks in a higher rate environment.Fitch concluded that it “does not expect significant ratings movements due to rate risks. However, should some banks not be as asset-sensitive as assumed, or should some liquidity or capital be relatively and adversely affected more than others, there could be select negative pressure on ratings.”Click here to view the full report. Curley Censured over Complaints of Alleged Sexual Harassment

Posted on by

first_imgBy John Burton and Jay Cook |FREEHOLD — “Brash.” “Brusque.” “Independent.” “Bully.” These were some of the terms members of the public used last week to both show support for and to disparage embattled Monmouth County Freeholder John Curley as the remaining four members of the board voted to formally admonish the combative Curley for his alleged comments. The freeholders, all Republican, voted unanimously on Friday, Dec. 8 to officially censure fellow Republican Curley. In the authorized resolution, they accused him of taking actions that were “…reprehensible, offensive, unbecoming of an elected official, and compromise the integrity of Freeholder Curley’s office and the Board as a whole…”Curley did not appear at the hearing. The freeholders’ action, however, is far from the final word on this matter, as Curley’s lawyer vowed to continue the legal struggle. Last week Angelo Genova, the attorney representing Curley, had gone to federal court to file a civil rights violation suit.Angelo Genova, the attorney representing Freeholder John P. Curley, challenged the Monmouth County Freeholder board before action was taken censuring Curley amidst claims he used salacious claims to county employees. In addition, Genova successfully convinced the judge to block some of the freeholders’ actions, especially the release of findings from a five-month investigation conducted by an unnamed retired Superior Court judge and a restriction on Curley being able to return to work. The judge overturned some other prohibitions put in place in light of the report, such as preventing Curley from using county property or speaking with county employees which essentially kept him from his office and assistant.Genova told the freeholders last Friday he would look to expand his lawsuit on behalf of Curley, alleging the freeholders violated the judge’s order by incorporating portions of the report that is presumably under seal into their censure resolution.“It is my opinion,” Genova told the county officials, “you have violated public ethics law.”Genova went on to allege of the county officials’ action, “This is not due process. This is a charade.”Monmouth County Freeholders (L to R) Serena DiMaso, Thomas A. Arnone and Lillian G. Burry listened to numerous county residents defend John P. Curley at a special public meeting held in Freehold on Dec. 8.While not present, a defiant Curley offered a statement, distributed through his attorney, saying essentially that, serving as the only full-time freeholder in Monmouth County among the five, “I am proud to support all people regardless of race, creed, religion, political party affiliation, and to help all with just receiving a phone call or email.”Curley went on to criticize his Republican colleagues and county Republican chair (and county sheriff) Shaun Golden for their alleged lack of concern for their constituents, calling the action “a slap in the face to all of our residents.”“This is about basic respect and human dignity,” Freeholder Director Lillian Burry said of the Board of Chosen Freeholders’ steps of invoking censure, as well as ordering a review and updating of existing county guidelines for sexual harassment.“This type of behavior is just wrong and must not be tolerated,” Freeholder Thomas Arnone concluded.County residents supporting Freeholder John P. Curley donned stickers reading “I Stand With John” as a special public meeting aimed to censure Curley came to a close on Dec. 8 in Freehold.According to the resolution of censure read by the county’s special legal counsel Jonathan Testa, there are documented complaints about Curley’s alleged behavior that expose the freeholders to legal action as he “likely engaged in angry, vulgar outbursts causing female employees to flee their offices…”The resolution goes on to say Curley “made many other salacious and vulgar statements” to county employees. He’s accused of using sexually charged expletives; of saying, “I’ll show you a snake show, sit on my lap and I’ll show you a show”; telling one female, “Oh, that’s you I wanted to bend over and take”; to publicly calling male employees derogatory homosexual slurs, among other alleged examples. “If proven to be true,” the resolution stated, these complaints, “are disgusting, reprehensible, shocking, and should never be made by anyone, let alone a County Freeholder…”Since the investigation commenced, “more and more stories have emerged” regarding Curley’s alleged behavior, Burry acknowledged. The audience was full of members of the public, many of them wearing “I Stand With John” stickers, offering their support and willing to overlook these and other alleged transgressions, seeing Curley as a sort-of champion of the electorate and taxpayer.Spring Lake Heights resident James Martin showed solidarity with Curley. “What you said to me did not sound like worthy of censure, but maybe of mild criticism,” Martin said to the freeholders. “Over the years, I’ve seen good ones and I’ve seen bad ones,” Martin continued, “and I’d say John Curley is at the top of the list,” of the good ones. “He may be a little brusque, that’s true, but sometimes brusque is appropriate,” he said. “He’s done some very good things.”William Meyer is a Tinton Falls resident with a law practice in Red Bank and was a volunteer for Curley’s unsuccessful 2006 Red Bank mayoral campaign. He compared Curley to a plumber who uses salty, colorful language, but in the end, gets the job done. “I have seen him be brusque where he takes a passionate approach to something where at first glance you think he’s over the top,” Meyer said, “then only to research things and find out he was way ahead of the curve, absolutely correct and he had something we wish every politician had done back in the day.”Vincent LePore, a long-standing Long Branch political gadfly, said, “I urge Freeholder Curley to dump the corrupt party political system and run as an independent in 2018…and he will win.”On the other hand, Pamela Murphy, Freehold Borough, is a county employee, who had worked at one of the two nursing homes the county had formerly owned. “This is not a good person,” she said of Curley, calling him a “bully.”“I witnessed it,” she said. “He may have done good things but that doesn’t make him a good person.”“What is this? Alabama?” asked Mike Beson, Ocean, referencing the Roy Moore controversy. “Wake up, guys, wake up to the new world we live in.“You have to take care of every single employee,” he told the freeholders.Genova raised a number of legal points, arguing against the validity of the investigation and report and the freeholders’ actions. Genova said Curley does not intend to resign. “Mr. Curley plans to continue to serve the people of Monmouth County,” the lawyer said. And he plans on continuing his federal lawsuit, Genova added. This article was first published in the Dec. 14-21, 2017 print edition of The Two River Times.last_img read more

Road to provincials just got a whole lot tougher for LVR

Posted on by

first_imgBy Bruce Fuhr,The Nelson Daily SportsThe L.V. Rogers Bombers now realize booking tickets to the B.C. High School AAA Boy’s Soccer tournament will not be as easy as in past years.Mount Baker took advantage of a short-staffed Bomber squad to squeak out a 1-0 victory in at the Wild High School Boy’s Soccer Tournament Saturday in the East Kootenay City.“We watched Baker play and knew we need some pace to stretch their wing/backs,” said Bomber coach Keith Williams. “Opportunities we had in the last few minutes proved worthless with errant shots,” Williams added. “A very excited and proud Baker team celebrated a well-deserved 1-nil victory.”The Bombers were missing Sean Hickson, Luis Loeschnik, Bruno Moro and Conrad Lanaway for the entire tournament.LVR opened the five-team, round robin tournament by stomping Selkirk Storm of Kimberley. Mitch Melanson had four goals to lead the Bombers. The Bombers then dumped Prince Charles Comets of Creston by the same 6-0 score in a very chippy contest. Luke Mori and Melanson each scored twice with Cormac Southam and Simon Sheppard adding singles. LVR’s Russell Ray was ejected from the contest.A tired and weary Bomber squad concluded the tournament by sneaking past Fernie Falcons 2-0. Mori and a converted defender to striker Kevin Lewis scored for LVR.“We were tired and sore after playing three games with one to three subs, so we took it easy (against Fernie),” Williams explained. “It was a nice way to conclude the tournament .  . . playing good patient defending (against) a weaker side.”The silver medal concludes the tournament season for LVR. The squad finished 12th at the Best of the Best High School Boy’s Soccer Tournament in Chilliwack before capturing top spot the weekend previous in Summerland.LVR now prepares for the Kootenay Zone Final set for Wednesday, November 3 in Cranbrook.  Game time is 1 p.m. MDT.The winner advances to the Provincial AAA Tournament November 25-27 at the Burnaby Lake Sport Complex. [email protected]last_img read more

Charity box theft won’t dim the Whoriskey’s Christmas spirit

Posted on by

first_imgKerrykeel couple Mary and Michael Whoriskey have vowed not to let this week’s burglary dim their Christmas spirit. Each year, the kind-hearted couple sets up an amazing Christmas lights display outside their home at Gortcally. The event has raised thousands for local charities in the past 15 years and large crowds came out for the big switch-on on Friday night last. But the Whoriskeys were shocked yesterday to find that the charity donation box was stolen from their entrance gate. As garda investigations get underway, Mary tells Donegal Daily that the burglary was a disheartening blow to their joyous fundraiser.“I just couldn’t believe it. We are coming on 16 years and nobody has ever laid a finger on anything,” Mary said. The sad discovery was made shortly before 11pm last night, when Mary when to take the donation box inside for the night. Proceeds from this year’s display will be donated to Donegal Hospice and the local Mevagh Voluntary Fire Service.“I went down to say a prayer at the crib, like I always do, and to unlock the box and take it inside. But it was gone.” Mary Whoriskey“I was upset at first,” Mary said, but she soon came to look on the positive side of the incident and hopes that no substantial donations were made during the day.She said: “I thought to myself ‘you hate for this to happen’ but Monday is a quiet day for us. I looked back on my records from the same Monday last year and we didn’t take in much. So, for it to happen, it was the best night.”Having trusted people to visit their home at Christmas for the past 16 years, Mary said she won’t let the burglary stop their charitable efforts.“It’s a lesson learned. Michael will be in the workshop soon making a lock so good they’ll need cutters to take it away. “I know in my heart and soul this was nobody from the locality. We have people travelling from all over to visit and we love to see people coming.” Whoriskeys Christmas Lights Display 2019Before the new box is made, anyone visiting in the next few days is invited to make a donation directly to Mary.“I’ll be at home in the kitchen, all donations will be very welcome,” she said.Meanwhile, Gardaí have launched a public appeal for information relating to the burglary. The theft occurred sometime between 3.30pm and 10.30pm at the Whoriskey’s house at Gortcally, outside Kerrykeel, on Monday 25th November. The donation box is described as a handpainted box with white lettering.  Anyone with any information is being urged to contact Milford Garda Station on (074) 915 3060Charity box theft won’t dim the Whoriskey’s Christmas spirit was last modified: November 28th, 2019 by Rachel McLaughlinShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img read more

Nielsen: U.S. Smartphone Users Concerned About Privacy and Location Data

That could involve “checking in” or that could just saying “yes” to transmitting GPS data in order to deliver specific content. Regardless, the Nielsen study does seem to suggest that, despite the popularity of location-based apps, many consumers are still reluctant to share this sort of information.
