first_imgBUSINESSMAN Eamonn Blaney – son of the late TD Neil T Blaney – is quitting Ireland, he said today.Writing in a blog on his website, Mr Blaney said the country faced economic oblivion unless the Government changed direction. The member of the Blaney dynasty, who stood as an independent candidate in Dublin in this year’s General Election, said he’d had enough and was getting out. The owner of Letterkenny’ Central Bar and former chairman of the Donegal Motor Club launched a scathing attack on the banks, revealing that one of them wouldn’t even open an account for his election bid!He said it was time Ireland pulled out of the euro, brought back the punt and linked it to our biggest trading partner – Britain.Mr Blaney wrote today: “Quietly and behind-the-scenes the Government must decide to show real leadership.“The type of leadership that will galvanise the people behind the Government, the type of leadership that inspires and, most importantly, demonstrates that what is right by the many, must come before what is profitable for the few. “This leadership will have to make the most difficult decision faced by any government since the founding of the State.“That decision is that they inform the ECB that, due to the illegality of the banks representatives’ behaviour, we must withdraw the bank guarantee and the Irish people cannot be expected to pay for a private company’s losses.“Simultaneously, we must withdraw from the euro and return to our own currency which we would devalue by about 20 per cent and, most importantly, peg its exchange rate to sterling.”Mr Blaney said however that unless people elected a government that would change, the necessary changes needed are unlikely to happen. He went on: “Until such time as the majority of the voters in this country come to the same conclusion I have been left with no practical alternative but to emigrate and join the 70,000-plus Irish people who have gone already.” You can read his entire article here: www.donegaldaily.com/2011/05/29/eamonn-blaney-on-quitting-ireland-his-blog-in-full/EAMONN BLANEY: ‘I’M GETTING OUT OF IRELAND’ was last modified: May 29th, 2011 by gregShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:banks crisisdonegaleamonn blaneyemigrationletterkennylast_img read more
