first_imgAn interior display of some of the modern devices in the innovation centreAs technology plays a significant role in creating an easier version of everyday life, more of this technological advancement should be more focused on modern educational development for children today.In an effort to attain this goal, Starr Computer in collaboration with its international partners on Wednesday launched its Starr Innovation Centre, which was specifically designed to promote modern educational development starting with robotic toys to modern classroom solutions.The centre seeks to fast-forward learning through the use of various electronic devices in a classroom since Guyana has a rapidly emerging oil and gas sector, which would require quick-thinking minds in the areas of critical thinking, logic and problem-solving.Director of Starr Computer, Mike Mohan explained that the main purpose of the centre is to create a concept of educating the younger generations by using the disruptive devices or technologies that are on the market, while revealing that one such department is the Kids Discovery Department.“We have just launched our innovation centre and the main reason for the innovation centre is to create a concept to educate the younger generation with the disruptive items that are on the market…so within the innovation centre, we’ve got what we call the Kids Discovery Department and from this department here we’re going to be showcasing small devices that kids can relate to, work with and they can learn how to do coding at a very young in at a fun fashion,” Mohan explained.In addition, Mohan disclosed that even though the devices are on sale at his company they are working to educate the public about them and not just sell them. The newly-launched centre is open to the public, absolutely free of cost and is encouraging these young minds to take advantage of these technologies.“The centre is open to the public, we are trying to get the Ministry of Education and other educational agencies to take advantage of these opportunities….. While we have these things available persons can purchase, at the same time our main emphasis is really to educate people about it more than trying to sell it” he said.Some of these innovative devices that are waiting to be utilised include the robotic vacuum cleaner, humanoid robots (namely Dr Albert Einstein), hologram 3D displays, recreational drones among others.Starr’s technology partners, through the innovation centre, is showcasing their modern technologies in business solutions to education.
